Both Indian and west cultures are premised on the basis of freedom expression. Fundamental reason for this compatibility is religion. Christianity and Hinduism follow the same principles of individual freedom, over ideology.
Fundamentalist Islam aka Fislam, communism and fascism are all ideology based communities which tend to gravitate towards a totalitarian regime. They prefer one God, one party. They cultivate an unsavoury attitude toward all other ideologies often leading to wanton conflict. In the language of Daniel Kahneman they appeal to the system 1 thinking of human mind focusing on first principles in physics. It is thus very easy to proselyte the plebeians into this belief system. They are totally incompatible with christian or Hindus or Confucius liberal thinkings which appeal to inner engineering rather than external appearance or goal focus.
A mission oriented change is much easier to incorporate however much harder to internalise. This is the reason why most revolutions fail to survive or alternatively lead to even more pernicious and dictatorial form of governance. The french revolution brought the rise of Napoleon as did the communist revolution bring the Stalin and Mao Zedong.
Hitler loved the Islam. To hitler, christianity was a weak and meek form of religion. To him it was a misfortune of Europe to have the wrong religion. Hitler complained to his pet architect Albert Speer. “Why did it have to be Christianity, with its meekness and flabbiness?” Islam was a Männerreligion — a “religion of men” — and hygienic too. The “soldiers of Islam” received a warrior’s heaven, “a real earthly paradise” with “houris” and “wine flowing.” This, Hitler argued, was much more suited to the “Germanic temperament” than the “Jewish filth and priestly twaddle” of Christianity.
It it’s thus imperative for India to align with the west rather engage with communism or Fislam. For a free society it is not only important to treat communism and Fislam with distain and impropriety but also to ensure that we do not condone it’s practice. Clearly we do not want to the ’cause of their growth and we should ensure with prejudice that these ideologies are not allowed to finagle civilised societies into totalitarian regimes.
Ideology based society will always turn into monsters sooner or later and the check to ensure such a thing doesn’t happen lies in the actions of every human. Like global warming, we should consider fundamentalism as one of the global evils which with consume our lives or the lives of our children if they are not curtailed right now.
The planet we live in has seen several occasions in the past when barbarians destroyed Rome and Fislam engulfed large part of the world because the rest of us were enjoying the fruits of a capitalist free society. Capitalism is a great tool to prosperity however it should only be acquired via and just means. The necessary condition of acquiring capitalism should be “democracy”. Any other form of govt should not be allowed to operate in a capitalist society, neither should capitalist share the benefits of operating in free society with these fundamentalist.
China is the monster we created thanks to our naivety. We shared the proceeds of oil discovery with Saudi Arabia which came to bite us in the form of 9/11. lets us awake and arise. The time has come for humanity to show some perspicacity in dealing with these perfidious abominations who slavishly enjoy the fruits of a capitalists society while being vituperative and cussed to free nations.
It’s tall order now since the monster is already out of the bottle, however I believed its not an impossible task if the nations of world unite like we did to thwart the fascist from taking over the world.
